insight into Australian education.
10/11/12

Malaysia hopes to learn from Australia's experience in education during deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's nine-day working visit to the country as well as advance cooperation in several other areas. Participants who include government, business and academic leaders, are from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Britain, Switzerland, the United States, and Australia. There are scheduled dialogues between Muhyiddin who is also education minister, with Malaysian in Melbourne and Gold Coast in an effort to touch base with those studying and working in Australia. Victoria, the state Melbourne is in, has the highest concentration of Malaysian in Australia. There are 40000 Malaysians, and an additional 9000 strong students population studying in various prestigious universities such as Monash University, Swinburne University of Technology and Melbourne University. Those working here are largely accountants, lawyers, doctors, restaurateurs, as well as those in business. The large population of Malaysians in Victoria has necessitated the establishment of a consulate in Melbourne. In Melbourne, Muhyiddin will be briefed on a gifted education system called G.A.T.E.WAYS Brainwaves club. The system, among others, enables the identification of gifted children from a young age.
